Important Notice- BCMS Changes to Online Assessment-"Methods of Construction and Construction Materials"

Completion of an online assessment, via the Building Control Management System (BCMS), of the proposed approach to compliance with the requirements of the Second Schedule to the Building Regulations is prescribed in the Building Control Regulations.

The BCMS Online Assessment is updated to reflect the current range of methods of construction and modern Building Materials/Products used in the building industry, to include " Standard Methods of Construction", plus an additional 5 categories of " Modern Methods of Construction" (MMC).

The existing questions:

Type of Construction” & “Is the load-bearing structure pre-fabricated off-site?

is removed and replaced with the following linked questions:

Main Method of Construction” and “Main Construction Material

The new Question

"Main Method of Construction" has a drop-down menu with the following options to choose from:

 - Standard Construction (Non-MMC)
 - MMC Category 1 3D Volumetric Primary Structure
 - MMC Category 2 2D Panelised
 - MMC Category 3 Non-systemised
 - MMC Category 4 Additive manufacturing
 - MMC Category 7 Site Process

When "Main Method of Construction" is selected, the “Main Construction Material” question will populate with a drop-down menu of the Construction Materials used in that construction.

For example, if “MMC Category 2 2D Panelised” is chosen, the following "Main Construction Materials" can be selected from:

- Timber Frame
 - Mass Engineered Timber
 - Precast Concrete
 - Structural Steel
 - Light Gauge Steel
 - Insulated Concrete Formwork
 - Structural Insulated Panel Systems
 - Other

For more information, go to the resource page to check definitions of "Standard Construction" and the 5 categories of "Modern Methods of Construction" here: https://nbco.nbco.localgov.ie/modern-methods-construction-mmc-commencement-notices

If “Other” is selected, then a free Text box will appear where concise details of the proposed "Main Construction Material" can be entered.
